As we come to the end of the first week of lockdown, it's important to remember to support our local businesses and shops as much as possible. Whilst we all remain at home, there are many ways in which we can continue to support our businesses, so for all those living within the Yeovil area, we have put together a handy list of our Top 10 favourite things to do during lockdown. So, here goes:

1. Pick up supplies at Take No Wrap

Found in The Quedam Shopping Centre, Take No Wrap is Yeovil's first zero-waste shop. Offering a wide variety of dried foods from pasta, fruit and snacks, plastic-free toiletries and eco-friendly alternatives to disposable products, it's never been easier to #ShopLocal AND be kind to the planet. Head to Take No Wrap to fill up your pantries ready for those cosy nights in.

2. Head for a walk at Yeovil Country Park

Thanks to 'Visit South Somerset', we have discovered an idyllic walk to blow away the cobwebs. The walk explores Yeovil Country park, including the wooded Southwoods in Ninesprings and the Valley gardens with springs, waterfalls and lake. Then follows the old railway line to Wyndham Hill where there are stunning views across Yeovil and the surrounding countryside. There are some steep climbs on this route but no stiles and plenty or benches for taking a break on your walk. You can find the full information here.

3. Spoil yourself with a sweet treat from Cake Box Bakery

The Cake Box Bakery, found in Wessex Road are still open and offering a mouth-watering selection of delicious cakes, as well as fresh bread daily, savoury pastries and essential kitchen items including eggs, milk, cheese, tea and coffee. So what are you waiting for? Put the kettle on and tuck in to a sweet treat (or two). Check out their Facebook page for details.

Since lockdown, they have launched their online shop which features unique creations from more than 30 artists, including original pieces, prints, hand-made gifts and more. As if that isn't great enough, they are also a registered charity, so by purchasing with them, you will also be supporting their artists and community.

7. Hire an E-scooter to get around

E-scooters have arrived in Yeovil with a trial initiative beginning with 17 parking bays spread across the town. Costing just £1 to unlock via the Zwings app and then 15p per minute of rental. Please remember to book tickets ahead of your visit, and take a face covering.

9. Grab a burger from Cow and Apple

As the saying goes, 'when life gives you a burger, eat it'. Cow and Apple are a specialist burger restaurant found at 8-10 Church Street. Whilst they are closed due to the current lockdown, their entire menu is available for takeaway. Head to their website to find out more, and place an order.

10. Get festive with the Westfield Place Christmas Lights display

If you head over to Westfield Place, you'll find a magical Christmas display of enchanting lights between 6-9pm that is sure to get you in the festive spirit. It is all in aid of Yeovil Hospital and the lights will be switched on each night between now and Christmas. Please note, Westfield Place is a dead end and parking is difficult.

Of course, there is a huge variety of other local businesses that are available throughout the lockdown, many of which have adapted their services in order to continue serving their loyal communities so please do remember to #ShopLocal and #SupportLocal wherever you can.

Most importantly - remember to stay safe, and if you are feeling unwell or you are vulnerable then please stay at home.
