Terence Ball Kitchens: Top tips for organising your kitchen

One of the biggest kitchen trends for 2020 is pantry organisation – and now, with the recent outbreak of Covid-19 and many Brits confined to their homes for the next few weeks, it’s more important than ever to keep your home clean and tidy.

Terence Ball Kitchens, based in Somerset, talk to us about their top tips for keeping your kitchen ship-shape during these unprecedented times.

1. Define your cupboard space!

This is often overlooked by so many – but it is so important to consider what you’re going to use each cupboard for. For example, it makes perfect sense to keep pots and pans close to your oven and you glasses at a higher level. A handcrafted, luxury pantry cupboard is a must for the organised chef, and at Terence Ball Kitchens our bespoke larders make finding kitchen essentials a breeze as they are designed with you in mind. They also make great coffee/breakfast larders, Cocktail bars with internal fridges, or the good old fashion favourite of The Great British Baking Larder.

2. First in, First out!

Give your pantry a supermarket makeover by following the "first in, first out" rule. Basically, put the newest boxes and containers behind what's already open. Keep things organized with bins, labels, and clear Tupperware. Now we all have the luxury of time to do these jobs and you’ll probably be surprised what you will find at the back of a cupboard.

3. De-Clutter!

Now is a great time to declutter in your kitchen.Get rid of or re-cycle things you don’t use. This is something that many people do with their wardrobes, donating clothes they no longer wear to charity, or selling them on – but it is often overlooked in the kitchen. Now is a great time to get rid of any appliances, dishes and mugs that you won’t ever use again!

You’ll be posting loads of engaging content, so be sure to keep your blog organized with Categories that also allow visitors to explore more of what interests them.

4. Keep countertops clear!

Whilst this idea might seem rather extreme, having empty worktops will make your kitchen easier to work in– not to mention, it will help to keep your surfaces clean which is absolutely vital at a time like this. If you can't manage to have completely empty countertops, try to trim down to just the essentials, for example, a kettle, toaster and coffee maker. Clear worktops also allow for your symmetry lines and beauty of your kitchen to be appreciated. You never see a showroom shop with lots of clutter. De-clutter, to achieve definition.

5. Do a deep clean!

With your cupboards, drawers and fridge empty whilst you organise their contents, now is the perfect time to give them a deep clean. Using a disinfectant spray and a cloth, wipe the surfaces to make sure they are spick and span and free of harmful bacteria and germs. While you’re at it, wipe down pepper and salt grinders, oil and vinegar bottles, dust spice and jars and tea and coffee cannisters and wash refrigerator drawers.

6. Maximise wall space.

Utilising your unused wall space is a great way to make the most of something beautiful that would otherwise be hidden away. For example, a wall-mounted plate rack makes a great design feature in your kitchen, as well as being functional and it means you can show off your best china!

7. Organise your drawers

Drawer dividers aren't necessarily just for forks, knives, and spoons: You can often adjust them to accommodate large, small, and oddly shaped utensils, making the whole drawer more organised. We recommend internal storage dividers for your drawers to help keep your pots, pans plates and utensils in place for easy access and use.

8. Be Narrow-Minded

Many kitchens have small, awkward spaces that are perfect for innovative storage solutions. Take this bespoke cupboard at a property in Martock – we designed this glass cupboard to utilise a narrow space that would have otherwise gone unused.

9. Use Forgotten Spaces

At Terence Ball Kitchens, we will design your kitchen to make the most of every inch of space available to us. Take a look at these beautiful bespoke chopping boards in a recent kitchen design in Somerset. We designed them to easily slot away into the central island unit, making an additional feature in the stunning design!
